HISTORY - HAYLING BILLY
See a website about the Hayling Billy
Cockle Run train 1960s. The text says: The early morning Train: from West Town, Hayling Island, for Havant on the way to Billingsgate Market. THis was known locally as "The Cockle Run" and it was here that the brave Hayling Fishermen - their basets of Fresh picked Cockles on their Trade Bikes, awaited the Train, their catch ready to be transported to all parts of the country. It is said that those very same Cockles can still be obtained in the Royal Shades Public House."
